Code 128 barcode generator

Code 128 is the workhorse of modern labelling. It encodes the full set of keyboard characters, packs digits compactly, and is read by practically every handheld and fixed barcode scanner. Asset tags, bin locations, work orders, and internal shipping labels are all good fits.

About this tool

Matching Sox Codes offers Code 128 in automatic mode plus the three explicit subsets, so you can match what a system or specification demands. The barcode is drawn on your device in your browser and never uploaded.

Free, no signup, no watermark. Processing happens on your device in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to do it

  1. Open the barcode generator with Code 128 (auto) selected.
  2. Type your value — letters, numbers, and symbols are all fine.
  3. If a spec requires a particular subset, switch to Code 128-A, 128-B, or 128-C.
  4. Tune the bar width and height for your label size, and choose whether to print the value beneath the bars.
  5. Download SVG for label software and print, or PNG for documents.
  6. Print a test label and scan it with your own scanner.

Auto vs. A, B and C

  • Auto picks the most compact encoding for your value. Use it unless you have a reason not to.
  • 128-A covers uppercase letters, digits, and control characters.
  • 128-B covers standard keyboard text, including lowercase.
  • 128-C encodes digits in pairs, so it needs an even number of digits — add a leading zero if yours is odd. It is the most compact choice for long numbers.
