Free QR code generator for links and text

Paste a web address or type any text and Matching Sox Codes turns it into a crisp QR code while you watch. The preview updates on every keystroke, so you can see exactly what will be printed before you download it.

About this tool

The code is static: your link or text is written directly into the pattern, not routed through a redirect service. That means there is no tracking, no scan counter, and nothing that can expire or be switched off later. It also means the code cannot be edited after you print it, so double-check the link first.

Free, no signup, no watermark. Processing happens on your device in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to do it

  1. Open the QR generator and keep the Link / Text tab selected.
  2. Paste your URL (for example https://example.com/menu) or type the text you want people to read.
  3. Choose an error-correction level: M is a good default; Q or H survive scuffs and smudges better but make a denser code.
  4. Set the size in pixels (128–2048) and, if you like, the code and background colors. Keep the code dark on a light background.
  5. Click Download PNG for screens and documents, or Download SVG for print and signage that needs to scale.
  6. Scan the result with your phone before you print it.

Tips for a code that scans first time

  • Shorter content makes a simpler, sturdier pattern. A short link scans more easily from a distance than a long one stuffed with tracking parameters.
  • Leave the white border (the quiet zone) around the code; the generator already adds four modules of margin on every side.
  • Low-contrast color pairs, or a light code on a dark background, can fail on some phone cameras. If you change colors, test with more than one phone.
  • PNG export uses the pixel size you set. SVG export is vector, so it stays sharp at any size on posters, banners, and packaging.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. Matching Sox Codes is free with no account, no signup, and no watermark on your downloads.

Do my QR codes expire?

No. The link or text is encoded directly into the code, with no redirect service in between, so there is nothing to expire. The flip side is that a printed code cannot be changed later.

Is my link uploaded anywhere?

No. The QR code is generated on your device in your browser. What you type is not sent to a server.

Which file formats can I download?

PNG at the pixel size you choose (128 to 2048 px) and SVG vector. You can also copy the encoded content to your clipboard.

How much text fits in a QR code?

A QR code can hold roughly a couple of thousand characters, less at higher error-correction levels. If you enter too much, the tool tells you it is too much data for a QR code.
